The body of the 993 Carrera Coupe underwent complete redesign: overall it became slightly shorter and wider, the front panels were orientated towards the 959 design, the front hood was slightly raised and the lights lay a little flatter. At the side, the rocket trim panel was omitted, optimizing the visual effect, while at rear the fenders were widened.
The Porsche 911 has followed the ideal course, rather than any trend. The six cylinder motor, therefore sat, as in racing cars, at the back - this brought weight to the driving wheels and increased traction. The boxer engine layout with opposed cylinders not only enabled a low layout and therefore profile, but was also characterized by a particularly low running vibration.
New to the 911 was the sporty 6 speed gear box, which was first tested in the Porsche 959, making only one gear change necessary (from first to second) for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h.
The 993 Carrera brake system used the state of the art ABS 5-System. With this new system the typical pedal pulsing was notably refined, easing pressure to the pulse control.
The characteristic instrument panel was adopted from the Carrera 2. The 993 Carrera also featured a new, more ergonomic dashboard, where similar functions were logically placed next to each other.
The 16 inch, Cup-Design light alloy wheel was featured as standard equipment in the 993 Carrera Coupe.
